Reputation Level: | newbie hi all, am new to all this and just dipping a toe into the koi world. Have enjoyed browsing your amazing ponds and builds to be,i am already regreting my pond i built in october and am planning a new build as soon as i can,(seems im not alone in building an 'ornimental pond' adding a few koi to the comets goldfish and orfe etc. and falling totally under the koi's spell! I now know my pond is not deep enough for koi,(11x11x2/3ftdepth) with no bottom drain, just pump fed (oase aqua eco 6000 to a oase filtomatic 6000, and a small waterfall fed by a hozelock easy clear 9000. Water is very clear and all parimaters good, but would an eazy pod be better untill i can start new pond,i have 2 koi 15'', ghosts x5 5/6'', and 4 mixed koi 5'' plus doz' comets godfish 2 large golden orfe 15'' and some golden rudd. Am also like a lot on here im sure a keen fisherman, (just discoverd the joys of catfishing on the Ebro in spain..130 pounder last summer!) Am open to all comments, even the negative ones as thats the way to learn. thanks Daren |

Reputation Level: | Hi Daren and welcome to the board.
Koi keeping is a long term (and expensive) commitment for many and you're wise to seek advice before a re-build. I'm sure the experts on here will give you the right guidance.

Reputation Level: | Thanks guys, im going through the various pond build threads on here,(you guys earn't your wheetabix!) and reading up on all the equipment you all mention, trying to get a mental image of what i want and what i need, a bit daunting at this stage! i may keep my exsisting pond for this summer, but keep kicking myself for not doing it right first time! i've a feeling i'll be dragging the wheel barrow out sooner than later though (maybe i could keep the hole in the ground for the 'ornamentals' and start a new build rather than dig and fill it in, hmmm, have to consult she who must be obeyed |
