Reputation Level: | New Member - redsaltire Hi everyone. I've been browsing but never really felt I had much to input having no real experience to share. I'm fairly far north in Scotland but this winter has been kind so far.
I built my pond (about 7m x 3m and about 1.1m deep at most to have a garden feature and keep a few fish without really thinking too much ahead. I also have a 2m dia header pond for a waterfall feature using a height difference already in the garden. So it's not an "extreme" pond - more a beer garden!
Started with a few goldfish, then introduced orfe then koi as I got a bit more confident. Now have quite a few koi up to about 250mm, but most are a bit smaller (say 6 months old). I've only lost the occasional fish, all within a few weeks (even days) of introduction, and mostly small comets. No losses for about 4 months now, though, out of 27 fish altogether so I must be getting something right!
Thinking of adding a new deeper, connected pond and stream this year.
Advice from contributors has been helpful - thanks. |
