Default Old timer

Just to say hello and that i love this forum and all the tips and advice to be gained from others sharing thier experiences on here. I have kept fish for over twenty years and at present only have a decorative 500 gallon pond but with a few 12 inch male Koi and recently got a 24inch female and my sturgeon has grown like mad this year and is now about 30 inches . So it is time that i set about a new pond build which i plan on starting early next year. Hoping to achieve 3 - 3.5 k gallon plus filters. I will post my progress and i am sure i will be on here often asking for advice. Thinking of going down the Nexus route on filters, maybe someone might give me some alternative ideas.

hi and welcome to the forum, another way of going on a filter system is the sieve and bead filter route. i know many will say go the nexus route but if i was you i would get out and have a look at other set ups and see what they use. when i built my pond i saw 4 or 5 ponds before and all used nexus filters but not one was clear of fines so this made me go the bead filter route. I'm not saying nexus is not the way to go because i know some members on here use them and get on very well with them. you could even think about a bakki shower as a filter system to. have a good look around the forum and ask as many questions as you like.

Hello & welcome

Those pics look familiar...are they from the 'Project Koi Pond' DVD? It's a good and imformative watch!
Good luck with your build and keep us all posted with the progress.

Default Project Koi Pond

Hi Miles
You are correct that the pictures are taken from the DVD "Project Koi Pond"

I was very shocked when i watched the DVD that the pond they constructed was so close to the picture in my minds eye of what will fit my garden and i loved the way that they planted it out around the sides to give a much better look to the finished job so i did get some great ideas from the DVD to further develop my ideas.

I will keep you posted as to progress as i intend to start the dig in late January or early February.

Hi Nidge and Welcome.

Your choice seems excellent.

I'm old school, I think if you can afford it, the attention to the rest of the garden is as important as the pool, if a really good total ambiance is to be achieved.

But as I always say "each to their own."

I'd have never been "allowed" to build mine, if such considerations weren't accommodated.
