hi guys,
This question goes out to all those that have bakki showers. This summer I,m hoping to build and install a double shower above the pond, now my question is do your koi become use to the noise and water disturbance so much so, that when you turn it off, the koi shy away from the surface and retreat lower down.?
I ask this because this happens to the koi in my growing on tank.
So as much as I would like to have a large shower on the main pond, I don,t want the koi to shy away if I turn the shower off to get a better view.
Koi will get "spooked" sometimes if there is any kind of change even when turning the air off to the pond or perhaps a shower but they normally settle down after a few minutes.
I have found this with mine when i do anything around the pond but they soon get back to normally. I think one of the reasons could be as we switch these things off when we are going to net them so they think here we go again
I've two which I have, a Blagdon triangular shaped net I occasionally use to retrieve any leaves or fallen blossom that's floating on the surface, any that end up in a corner, or anything I accidentally drop in.
I practically have to push the fish away with it, as I do with the long handled soft brush that I occasionally use to sweep the bottom of the pool.
But I've also got a big pan net which is for catching the fish.
One sight of that and they're off!
They aren't daft, these fish.

i have a little shower that i made which comes on ever hour for 15mins, i dont know if its because i have it on intermittent or not but mine dont react atall to it apart from they like to swim up to it when it 1st comes on, on the subject of nets i have around 5 or 6 fish that dont seem to mind being netted, they dont put up a fight and they dont thrash around when in the net, the other dont really like it thou
Yes they will spook when the showers stop, but if you throw some food in at the same time the brighter ones will soon associate the two, so at least the males will get fed.
