There`s not much difference between the 2 but it`s usually easier to see the set position with a ball valve. Best to fit the double fixing collar`s so that you can easily take it out for maintenance
Hi, from what I've read, ball valves are better for contolling water flow and the gate valves are used for total 'on or off' function, i.e. on the bottom drain and to waste.
i have slide valves and 1 of them ( 4" ) is letting water by when fully closed...i wish i had fitted ball valves, i think they give you better control over your flow rates or even if you want to completely shut them off..just my opinion.
Never put slide valves on any waste as they will let by sooner or later and you don't want the problem once all plumbed in. If you can go with a good quality double union ball valve and you want be disappointed
If possible you don't really want to be using valves to control the flow as this can also put pressure on a pump its best to match the pump to the system your running.
