ive gone all old skool on the bakki now , when you work out how much the crystal bio cost's , it's quite expensive when required in large amounts .

what ive done now , or should i say , what ive added now , is alfa grog !!

in my bakki i'm running , 300lts of bio pore , 200lts of crystal bio , and 250kg of alfa .

now i'm adding another 3 ponds to the mix , i'l stick with the bakki system , but this time only use alfa grog in each system , it is heavy stuff , so i'l be useing the large water troughs from ebay at £30 each , 4 tiers high like i always do , and this time 3 sacks of alfa per tray .

there is another reason why ive gone to alfa , instead of sticking to either crystal boi or bio pore , as i run soft water , both dissolve or start to , at low gh and ph levels , where as alfa wont being a ceramic (ish) media .

also when it gets dirty it can be jet washed clean , where as you cant do that with either bio pore or crystal bio , as it will disintegrate under the pressure .

mark , if was you , go the full hog straight off , on a bakki , go the four trays , and use alfa , without looking round at cost's and getting good deals ect , a 4 tier bakki useing the water troughs from ebay and alfa from a local shop , it will cost around £230 , then its just the pump , go for the biggest you can buy or even two !!

steve i have already brought the bakki shower, i brought the plastic one off ebay i said i was going to buy for £200. its a 3 tier but i do have a 4th tier for it but the 4th tier would need fixing as when the guy sent me it the top tier was broke so he sent me a new top tier and told me to keep the old one but it can be fixed easy. the only thing about alfa grog is have i not seen its can also hold bad bacteria as well as good or i am wrong here. also the pump i will be running is a sequence 15000 from my skimmer.

fix the fourth tray you have , as for alfa housing bad bacteria , all medias house them , to a certain degree , the only difference in how much bad bacteria they hold, is how there used in any given system .

the good thing with the bakki system , is its high aeration , making them the filter system with the lowest dead spots which can house bad bacteria .

no , or extremely low dead spots and high aeration , means very little bad bacteria can manifest , also with the bakki system , its also the biggest shedder of filter bacteria , back into the pond, with a high amount of good filter bacteria going back into the pond , it means they out compete the bad bacteria in the pond aswell , its a win win on both fronts !!
