Hi there, me and Alan have been keeping koi for about 8 years and we are still are learning . We have a 4,500 gal raised pond, 7foot deep at one end up to about 5 foot at the shallowest part. There are two bottom drains feeding into a vortex and three chambers of alfa grog and Jap matting. 55wat uv and 90 lt air pump feeding the filters and pond plus a diy trickle tower fed by the skimmer.
We have another pond of 500 gal which is more of a growing on pond and a quarantine tank of 200 gal.
I have a few pictures of our mutts

Hi Ellen, sorry for the late reply, I live in Essex.
do you have any pics of your koi?
We started out with buying a koi for a small fish tank we were given
Then the bug set in, our first pond was just a few hundred gallons with a mixture of tench, orfe, and a few koi. Then bless them they started to grow we are now a pond number 3 or 4. Pond number 4 is it, we really cant get any bigger. In April we had a major sort out, we gave away two tench which were over 70cms long!! one mirror carp who was not quite as big but all have gone to a good home. We are now concentrating just on koi. To make it a bit cheaper we are buying tosai and growing them on to see how they turn out, just a bit of fun
