Rep Power: 0 | Thank you for that, Mark.
I've just got the info for the Bacteria Answer online at: http://www.blackburnhouse-japanese-k...k/prod612.html Just 24 hours with the UVs off will do.
Also ordered 1 litre of Green Away so should have more than enough!
Regards,
Ray |

Rep Power: 1 | i would treat with the green away first just in case you have to clean your filter out then when you have clear water treat with the filter start normally five days after the green away treatment but please check on the green away bottle as i cant really remember i think its 5 days

Rep Power: 0 | Hello again, peoples! I'm glad to report that the pond water is getting clearer now. I've used two treatments of Greenaway since my last post and manually collected all the floating 'gunge' with a fine net, each time. I've also washed out all the system brushes in pond water several times and was amazed at the amount of muck they had caught and trapped. Fully drained and flushed out the big vortex as well. I also did a major water change - 50% - before restarting the filtration system and added another bottom pump to pipe water up to my waterfall. This was caught and filtered through a fine mesh net and, though the net needed periodic cleaning and was a slow method in itself, the net did manage to trap quite a bit of muck! The K1 is slowly reaching maturity and the water returning to the pond is much cleaner.
Unfortunately, I now have a protein problem (foam) developing on the pond surface and, of course, throughout the filtration system. I imagine I'll need two more remedies for a good job, a protein skimmer idea, maybe, and possibly a type of sand filter to 'polish' the water, right? Based on my system description and photos posted previously, is there a DIY way of doing this, please?
I hope you are all having a good weekend and I look forward with thanks to further help from you, the experts!! )
Kind regards,
Ray |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Help needed with old pond filtration Hello again, guys,
Sorry for the long delay in getting back! I managed to make my own skimmer after all and, after some trial and error, it is working fine. Had to mount it in the pond but it has taken out quite a bit of protein and continues to do so. The container is only temporary until I find something better. )
I thought you might like to view some recent photos I've uploaded, so you can see how clear the water has become. The fish are quite happy as well!! http://s273.photobucket.com/albums/jj206/Catmandu_2008/
Kind regards,
Ray |

Anybody have any idea what kind of koi this is? I've looked around on the web but couldn't figure out what it is. |
