Default Our 24,000 gallon Koi Pond

Hi,

I recently joined and read that Mik and Carla suggested a pic of our pond.
I've posted theÂ* pond on other forums and think maybe people are getting tired of looking at it.
But here goes.

It is 40'x20'x4' deep.
The lilly pond in the pic is attached bringing total water, including filters to 31,000 US gallons.
We house about 60 koi ranging from 6 inches (last years fry) to around 24 inches.
Only pond quality Koi, but our wet pets just the same.
Most of our Koi are from our spawnings and raised from eggs.

Russ

Thats an olympic size swimming pool. Looks really good. How are you filtering it?

Hi Jono,

Thanks!

There are 2 bottom drains. Each gravity feeds a 1500 gallon settling tank. Each settling tank output is connected to (3) seriesed 55 gallon drum filled with plastic strapping. Each of the 3rd barrels goes to its own 4500 gph pump back to the pond.

There are 2 skimmers. Each skimmer gravity feeds (1) 55 gallon drum filled with plastic strapping. The output of each these drumsÂ* goes to its ownÂ* 4500 gph pump and is pumped to the trickle towers.

The trickle towers output into the lilly pond which then overflows into the main pond.

There is are 2 80watt UV lights, one on a bottom drain circuit and one on a skimmer circuit.

Total of (4) 4500 gph pumps probably pushing around 15,000 gph.

Below is a pic that shows the settling tanks and 6 of the barrels. What is not shown is the other 2 barrels on the 2 skimmer circuits.

Russ

Essexkoi,
Here you go. Hopefully this year I can get some better individual koi pics and better close ups.
Its hard to get them all in the same place, to get a group photo, so you might not see all of them.
I am not a good potographer, I am not using the best camera, and the koi never cooperate!
These were taken in the spring of 2006, and the water wasn't completely cleared from winter.
But it is the best I got so far.

Thanks for your interest,
Russ
