Bstro,

One problem that I can see with putting two drains in but only having one connected, is that you will get a build up of c**p in it which will cause health problems for your koi unless you flush it regularly. As RDH said the flow when both drains, are running will be reduced through each one which could affect the transport of solids to your filters and deposit it in the pipe.
I have 5500gals with only one bottom drain, there is a good flow through it and the pond is clear.

yes i agree mark so will be installing just one, i rang avenue fisheries about the bottom drain you sugested. £109 posted so i may have to investing in one
