Hiya guys, well it's reached that time when I can start this mew thread as the build is now immenant. Have cleared out all the garden (just about!) and the digger is set to arrive Friday
For those that haven't seen the pics on my other thread, this is where we are now.
More pics to follow right through the build over the coming weeks - just hope the weather holds, as it's been good so far this winter.
New pond to be approx. 10x8x4 giving approx. 2000 gals, wish me luck!

hi miles thanks for starting the new thread on your build. one thing to keep in mind is when you start digging the pond make sure you remember that you lose 18" in size when you lay the blocks so if you want 10x8 internal make sure the hole is bigger to allow for this.

Hiya Mark,
Good advice there mate, When I get the last of the c**p away tomorrow, I shall be marking out, so will bear that in mind. Thanks!
i worked mine out to be 14 x 12 but ended up with 12 x 9 internal which did pee me off abit lol. also make sure your hole is square as thats another reason i lost more size as well lol. just things to keep in mind mate. im sure you know what your doing so good luck mate and dont forget all them pics lol.

I did exactly the same thing, forgot to allow for the size of the blocks, I still can't believe I did that! Miles, no way you could go a foot deeper? If you did, that would be 25% more water At least worth thinking about I reckon, especially if you're using a digger. Anyway, good luck and take it steady.

Cheers...Freddy.
I could do, and have thought about it! Will keep you posted on the developments
agreed lol if i dug mine again it would be 5 foot just so i could get more water in the given space. im happy with 4 foot and my fish are so its your choice miles.

check your garden for manholes, if there is any lift the lid and see were the pipes go, last thing ya want is to dig down 3 foot and hit a pipe. im sure this must have happend to other people before
When I dug mine I allowed for the block size but what I found is that after I had dug it out the edges that butt up against the Decking and the side fence were not straight and theefore before I started laying my first block I had to get a spirit level up against the sides to make sure I wasn't going to be blocked by anything a few layers up. This lost me an extra 2 - 3" of both the decking edge and the fence edge.
Still, saying that my Koi Cube is 7' deep so I think that I'll still get my 3000 gal
Good luck with the build, just remember post up as many pics an ideas you have as you can. You think you have it all planned out but there is always a better way to do things. Trust me I'm still building mine and have wasted both time and money (not much but still some) because I keep changing things lol . I'm happy now and finished the main pond blockwork so not much more that I'll be changing.
