having seen pauls cetus sieve working i really do like them. i like the idea that you can do bigger back wash's on the bead filter in one go with out running out of water in my pond to go over the sieve.

Hiya Mark. I've found that just one backwash seems to be enough to get the water running clear. Obviously, my stocking level is low, so that might change, but then again, if I have to backwash twice a week, it's no big deal.
How about putting the overflow in the filter house somehow and then there is less for the fish to bash on or even in the skimmer perhaps ?
What filtration are you going to be using ?
Interesting thoughts Gazza, but it should be ok with the use of a flange connector, as there aren't any protruding eges.
If you read earlier posts, intially it'll be an easy pod for filtration, with a view to an upgrade later in the year!

Cheers...Freddy.
dont get me wrong i can back wash the filter ok in one back wash but i have to be carefull as with the estro sieve the weir is fixed and does not move up or down so if i take to much water out the pond it does not run over the weir in the sieve. with the cetus sieve it moves up and down.

Ahh, I see. BTW Miles, don't mind us stealing your thread
Another little milestone done....base for filter bay area is now laid; also timber for pergola arrived
Hope this improvement in the weather lasts for the weekend so I can continue
Hi Miles,
Good to see you progressing. I've not touched mine for over a month now.
With regards to the overflow I will be connecting a T joint from the skimmer pipe and having the pipe run up to the height I want the water and then down to waste as my overflow, with the other section of the T going to the bead filter as normal.
I got this ideal from matt (GRP) as I was at the time thinking of putting an overflow pipe in the pond itself.
Hiya Mark, very good question and slightly embarrasing ideally it should be in the filter bay floor base, but obviously now it's where it is, it'll stay! should have thought more about that bit before setting the bottom drain - doh!
It just means an extra bend on the pipework and will enter, what will be the back wall of the filter housing.
