Default overflow and top up advise

now i have built my pond im now thinking i need an over flow system, any ideas on how i can do this now, would it be poss to put a 1/2" pipe on top of the liner and under the copping stones and then run this to waste,or would i need bigger pipe.

Hi Mark. On my last pond (which was lined), all I did was cut out a 'notch' in the timber I used under the liner, then just pressed in a piece of 13mm/1/2 inch
plastic pipe which went to a soak-away. This was a very basic affair but seemed to work fine.

Cheers...Freddy.

Hi Markf1fan, First of all are you going to have a constant fresh water supply running 24/7......? If you are I would fit 2 1" overflows - the way I would do it, your pictures show that you have a lot of liner overhang so I would add another layer of blocks and cement the drainage pipes where ever you want them......... or if you dont want to do that instead of copping stones use double round ended bricks ( see picture ) with waterproof cement.

* Dont get any morter in the water it'll kill the fish *

yeah i was going to coat it in G4. would it be a good idea to have the return feed back into the sieve and not the pond as i want to do all the pipe work in the filter bay as i have fitted the filter purifier in with every thing else.

Normal morter bed is about 15mm so you'll need to cut some of the copping stone away to make it work.

yeah very true, was thinking of putting it into a corner in the pond and then run it to a waste drain. how much of a water change should be done a day or a week. being 11000L how many litres should it be.

My pond is 12500ltrs which is trickle fed 24/7. if my calc was correct I change about 10% - 12% daily which basically what all the koi books say to change.

right i have thought of another way to do my over flow but what do people think and most of all would it work before i change pipes over. here are the pics, the first 2 pics being how pond is done now and the others are of how i want to try it with the t piece, what i want to know is if i make the pipe on top of the t piece go higher then pond level would it still flow into the sieve and also have the level at the top of the pipe in which then i can drill into this pipe and put the over flow instead of drilling the skimmer. will this work any advise please. mark
