Default Pond No2

Hi folks. At my last home I had a Koi pond of around 2,000 gallons in which I had around 12 fish, all of a pretty good size. Anyway, since my move back in 2007 I'd pretty much discounted having another pond as my garden is rather narrow, being 15ft at it's widest. A few weeks back I had another look at it and decided that I COULD fit one in, my only concern being that it might look a bit cramped. So, yesterday I made a start on what will be a 12ft x 8ft x 5ft(ish) pond, which will hold around 3,000 gallons. As it stands, the plan is to go for a sieve/bead filter system. I've ordered the initial pipework (bottom drain, skimmer, bends etc) which came to a hefty £420 ! Aint cheap this pond stuff eh ? As you can see, the hole is dug, the depth being around 3ft 6". The pipework should be here tuesday so MAYBE on thursday the concrete can be poured. Oh yeah, must remember that the weather doesn't always play ball. I was quite surprised to see it raining this morning, but thankfully no puddles in the bottom. By all means, if you see me making a mistake, or have any questions, please speak up

Cheers...Freddy.

Hi Mark, glad to hear it was nothing major
I visited a local Koi stockist today just to have a nose about. Anyway, we started talking about Koi 'stuff' generally, and I asked him which pump size I would need to run the skimmer and U/V. He reckoned a 5,000 lph pump was plenty large enough, any thoughts ? Also, he reckoned that a bay with brushes was just as good as a sieve. Again, any thoughts ? BTW, I was the winning bidder on a Sequence 10,000 <----< well pleased.

Cheers...Freddy.

Well done so far Freddy

You must have some good neighbours, letting you on to their land with digger or at least I presume that's the case!

keep up the good work!

hiya freddy
well having seen today my sequence 10,000 running i must say it runs ok but just maybe i will go for a 12,000 to get a better flow from the water surface in time. i will run it as it is now and see how it all runs. as for the brushes and sieve well i would go sieve all the time. mark

Hi Mark. You said about getting a larger pump, to get a better flow. Not sure I understand why you would need a higher flow rate, but what do I know . I saw somewhere that venturi reduce the flow by as much as 2/3rds ! These sieve thingies look good, but I'm concerned about high maintenance, not sure I would want to be cleaning EVERY day. All input welcomed. Thing is, I don't want to be doing this again, 'Right first time', as they say

Cheers...Freddy.
