hiya freddy
what i mean by a bigger pump was that having now run up the system and seen what water moment i have i think i could just do with more of a flow in the pond from the skimmer to the venturi. i also must say as with the sieve they do take alot of rubbish out of the water. to be honest i think its how good you want your water to be. as for the bead filter they say they only need cleaning once aweek, but as for the sieve i will have to wait and see.

Hi folks. Nothing to report, still waiting for my bottom drain etc. There is though something I'd like to ask. Once the base is laid, what degree of 'benching' will I need ?

Cheers...Freddy.

No-one knows ? Ok, I'll ask another. My bottom drain and stuff turned up today, and I notice that it's 7" deep. As most folks seem to go for 6" of concrete, does this mean that the bottom of the bottom drain is actually in the soil ?

Cheers...Freddy.

hiya freddy
my drain sat on the soil and then 8" base. you have a lip on the drain which the concrete will go upto. as for the benching of the bottom i must say that i have not benched mine at all and so far this week i have noticed its working great with alot of fish muck going into the sieve. i did read some where last week on the net that for every foot the sides is away from the drain you bench 1" so if one wall is 5 foot away then you bench it by 5". to be honest i never did this and it does seem ok so far. mark

Hiya Mark and Miles, thanks for the replies. These kinds of decisions aint easy are they! So Mark, you have 8" of concrete, thought it was 6" My Sequence pump turned up today also, so things are starting to get a bit more serious. I had intended to start marking out my levels this evening, but instead had to TRY to mop up the mess in the bottom of the clay pit It's as sticky as hell down there ! Just gotta hope for a few dry days.

ATB...Freddy.

hiya freddy
in the beginning it was going to be 6" with the first bottom drain i brought but then when i brought the bigger bottom drain i made it 8" as the drain was deeper. i had been told that a base between 6" and 8" is fine so you doing it 6" should be fine mate. mark

Hi folks. Managed to do a bit of pottering today. Bottom drain and a bit of pipework 'welded' together. Been playing around trying to find the levels, but it seems to be sorted now. Tomorrow I will try to concrete in place my bottom drain along with the 'elbow' to try to secure it for when the concrete base is laid. I had a mini disaster when I cracked the flange on the bottom drain, but it should be ok once it's fibreglassed, right? I'll try to put up a couple of pics tomorrow.

Cheers...Freddy.

Hi folks. As promised, a couple of pics. Pretty much ready for the concrete now I reckon. Hopefully wednesday as long as weather holds up. If anybody spots something wrong, please speak up.
Oh yes, and yesterday I ordered my sieve (Cetus) and bead filter (Econobead 60). Both came to £1100, which I thought wasn't too bad

Cheers...Freddy.

hiya mate
it all looks good to me, are you having a cement mixer come in or are you doing it your self. if your having it come in i used a c35 mix with added fibres if its of any help to you. also what made you go that filter way as that was my choice as you know, and well done on buying the encono bead 60 as thats the filter i brought and so far happy with it. mark
