hi ive just joined this site and i am loving it so helpfull and imformation in abundance love it..well anyway this is my first koi pool under construction at the moment its 12x12.in lenght,and8x8.in width.with a depth of 3,ft which i think is enough for now...ive run the pipe work which is an 1,1/2 through the blocks as this will be the same right through the sys tem so it will all be solid pipe ..but once the concrete base is in place im hoping to have it fully fiberglassed inside when money permitts but will keep u updated on the progress thx guys...

hiya
pond is looking good, can i ask why you not gone for a bottom drain. also i see you have not fitted a skimmer into the pond. what filter system will you be using.
mark
the bottom drain is still to be fitted and there will be an oase surface skimmer which will run from one of the pumps and as for the filter system to start with it will run straight into a hoselock twin 18000 bio filters which both have the 11,watt uv lights in it will run through a 4,bay cloverleaf system in my shed then pass through a yamitsu algea master 30,watt uv before returning to the pool well thats the plan but hopefully it will look stunning up on completion...

sounds ok but as just said should the bottom drain not already of been put in. im not sure how your going to be doing this now but keep pics coming and info.

hi mark i must be honest i never thought of the bottom drain when building this pool as this is my first seriouse koi pool but i think i have found a solution to this i was on absolutly koi website and they do a portable aerated bottom dome which connects to an oase aquamax eco 16000 pump and the airline to the air pump so it would basically do the same job as a bottom drain so thats one solution im considering as there is already a 1,1/2 inch drain pipe goin through bottom of wall si if i ever need to empty it that wouldent be a problem just never thought of the bottom drain lol.but u live and learn ...thx steve...
the bottom drain should have gone in before all the brickwork ,concrete ect , but there are other ways round this
filtering system sounds good , so what stocking rates and feeding rate are you looking at ??? and what's your taste of fish ?? ogon, sanke ect ect ??
steve
im only looking to have around 15/20 fish between 15/25,cm..which will consist of ogon, sanke, chagoi, shusui,a few kohaku and a large 35,cm kujaku which is currently in my dads pond awaiting the completion of her new home money permitting lol...steve
steve , thats a lot of fish in a medium sized pond !!!
since your using the pressure filter type , think about adding a bakki , as they can handle heavy loads and you might want to think about upping the flow rate and turnover the general rule is smaller the pond faster the turnover , and then add higher the stocking rates ,faster the turnover .
just bare the above in mind , as we've all been there , when we first start we want loads of koi ect , and usualy hit problems with over stocking , koi keeping is like a ladder . youl find as you progress , you'l keep less koi in more water !!
well pergola is now up filters are in only 2 jobs left which is the most expensive part and thats to get the base in this month the give the fiberglass man a call of here to come and glass it all for me well thats the plan will put updated pics up soon....

all sounding good mate, looking forward to seeing the pics, have you had a price for the fiberglassing yet. have you thought about a box welded liner as its half the price of fiberglass. mark
