I came across this site by a roundabout way. On a dedicated US jazz messageboard, the subject of favourite record shops came up and I was directed to a site where different ones world-wide, both past and present are recorded. I was unable to remember the name of the one I frequented in my youth and the only one that came up was probably there much later, but possibly long gone by now, as I didn't recognise the photo posted.
Anyway...
I tried typing in the name of the road and town into Mozilla and came up with several options, this being one of them, it took me straight to my own home town with lots of archive photos and a message board which had contributions from people who lived there and their recollections from their youth. The site is that of an on-line book, vintage map and photo retailer, but you're under no obligation if you just want to read all the interesting history about any town or city. Included I found over 25 photos from the town some taken fifty or more years ago.
So you might want to punch in your own home town and see what comes up.
