Default what is this koi

hi all

i bought this koi towards the end of the season along with a few others all was small fish .
unfortunatly this is the only one that survived out of the batch but i dont know what he
/she is .
The bloke in the shop referred to it in the shop as a leather head ????

So any ideas what the true breed is ?

Hurley, dont matter what it is really as long as you like it!

if i throw the name of this koi at you would it benifit you? would you know what i was talking about?

ok tell you what lets break it down...
#
is the koi mattalic? y/n

although young what colours will it be?

Leatherhead? whats that?... i
is it fully scaled? or is it a doitsu fish? (which means it has no scales apart from a line down its back and either side maybe)

then you have narrowed down exactly what you are looking for...
i then would get a resonable book and look for something which you have just broken down....

it will help you to remember what it is rather than me just telling you.

let me know what you believe it to be and i will then tell you what i think it is..

Hi

Thanks for your answer , and yes I can appreciate what your saying it never hurts to be self taught .
Can you recommend any good books as I'm all for reading up on this type of thing .
I just like to know the breeds of fish in my pond and this is the only one I don't know .

I'd say yes it's metallic and a doitsu .
But I'm stuck after that .

Thanks
Matt

I'd like to say its a young shusui but it's the orange that's confusing , you can just see a dark line coming down its back .
I'm going the orange fades as it matures

ok well im going with the fact that the orange will probably strengthen as it matures..
the blue as you see it will darken on the body probably into black( or sumi) as is normally the case.
the darkness on the head will hopefully dissapear as what you can see is the skull of the koi under the skin, if it doesnt what you will have is what they call a "dirty head"

ok then so were saying how many colours... 3?

so we have a doitsu mettallic koi with 3 colours... so were getting closer

any ideas yet?

look at where you think the black will settle... will it be in patches? or do you think it will be just be on individual scales... like matsuba or Kujaku.
