i think i tend to agree with shortstop however the picture isnt the best and i could even throw into the mix a mettallic goshiki (shochikubai). but who knows?
These two images are Hariwake Matsuba, anything like yours?
Where did you get the name hariwake matsubas from? never seen it in any of the books or mags I have read. The photos you posted lok just like Kajakus whats the difference?
for us kujaku come in various colours, others may break it down further, i guess you could ask a similar question when does a Hariwake become a kikasui? this may vary from country to country. even so i would believe if the original picture were to be a Hariwake matsuba, it would indeed be lighter in colour.
Hariwake Matsuba: a silver and dark-gold koi with "pinecone" pattern.
Incidentally Ochiba on the link i gave, the exact picture your using is labelled Kujaku
also this site shows a picture of a platinum Kohaku??? well as there is no direct word in japanese for platinum what else would you call it?? TBH i dont think this is one of the reference pages i would use for identification.I like you George would stick to the books.

Reason: wanted to add a little more...
Shortstop,Pondy,
As quoted from Koi4u.
Hariwake Matsuba: Confusing description. This variety has essentially the same appearance as Kujaku. The distinction lies in the positioning of the light and dark areas of the vignette. For show purposes, they are grouped together therefore the difference between Kujaku and Hariwake Matsuba is in my opinion purely academic.Kate McGill in her book Koi Appreciation says much the same.WE can debate until the cows come home,Hariwake Matsuba or Kujaku? How many koi keepers have purchased what they think are Kujaku
but in reality are Hariwake Matsuba?Would you pay the same money for both varieties?
Did some more checking, in the book Modern Nishikigoi by Takeo Kuroki he lists Hariwake Matsuba as a dark golden colour and Yamabouki Hariwake Matsuba as a bright yellow golden colour so I stand corrected You learn something new all the time.Guess its all down to the clours. Now I have to read all my books again. cheers George
