assume i had a asagi..
and this asagi got a shimi, over time the shimi slowly grew larger at what point does the shimi become pattern... is it once its the size of two scales? and if it does what would it be classified as then?

Hi Lou
These 2 Asagi that I have
The first 1 is 57cm and that the hi is coming up past the lateral line it is getting past showing
The second Asagi I brought it to take over my first koi and that it is now31cm long
Some time later I will put my Yamabuki on for you to see

Lau, a shimmie is a shimmie is a shimmie until it's a pattern element!
The 2 scale rule is relative to colour elements, and that includes shimmies, on a koi, i.e 1 scale of beni on an shiro utsuri and you have a shiro utsuri with tobi hi, 2 scales and it's then a pattern element and you have a showa.
The same goes for shimmies (although the colour is taken into account on this as well), take a kohaku, if it gets a small brown shimmie or a number of small brown shimmies scattered over the body, it's simply a kohaku with shimmies. If the shimmie is black and seen to cover 2 or more adjacent scales, it's a pattern element and thus you no longer have a kohaku with shimmies but a sanke.
Regards the Asagi in question, if it has a 2 scale shimmie, it would then become an Asagi Sanke and be benched in Kawarimono by the BKKS but in Asagi by the ZNA & A.K.A
Yep, certainly not an often see koi at any quality, saw a picture of a really good example once, but even then, have to say, it looked a bit weird if I'm honest and not really something i'd strive to own lol
