Hard to say from the picture, If it is a metalic then I would say its a Yamatonishigoi if not the I would say a low grade Sanke.
Yes Sumi can come and go right throughout the life time of a Koi.

i bet you are in hard water area, so the sumi came up like this,
also the sumi starts cover the "hi" and everywhere, that's why i said bad sumi,
Easy to spot the different between sanke and showa is pectoral fins.
so i would say the fish is Kinda Showa

Hi all, well im im totally confused now : : its not metallic and has no sumi around the mouth ,hoping to put it on ebay tomorrow as clearing the pond , what shall i put it down as and how much would you guys pay for it ? Being as i did not buy it, came with house lol and i dont know much about the different types of koi out there,,,,iv been a quick learner through the web but not that much...
Hi, well the koi is approx 18 inches, deep bodied, and i do believe it was bought from selective koi in hainford, norwich a few years back like i said when i move it came with the house and i do believe that selective koi bring them over from japan and thats all i know....
