Default net ring

Has anyone tried the Net rings, there on sale on e-bay for about 25 quid, wondered if they would be better than a net,

Herons are wading birds. They will only step into water that comes below their bum. They won't land on deep water.
The best defence against herons without sacrificing the look of your pool is to make the distance from where they might stand on the side of your pool to the water level the best part of two feet. They are ungainly birds and if you can make the perimeter of your pool of an uneven surface on which it would be difficult for them them to stand, so much the better.
Those net rings might deter cats (who I've found are mostly "fish watchers") but not a heron which could take a stab at a fish through those plastic rings.

Thanks for the replies, am looking for protection from Herons, and it to be more pleasing to the eye.

I'm afraid it looks like it's going to be some sort of a compromise.
I use a fine gauge mesh black net. (Not this one, I changed it for a smaller gauge), which is even harder to see from the French windows. I could have painted the green garden wire black which helps stop it dipping the middle, but I'm not that bothered. It will also keep most of the leaves out. I've since floated my heavy duty bubble-wrap insulation over most of the pool and under the net.
