Unhappy Heron Alert!!!!!

I appear to have a new occupant of my pond and it's not a koi!!!!!

He appears most mornings between 430 & 530. Fortuantly the current visits have only resulted in one casualty which could be alot worse.

Plastic Heron!!! Well he stands right next too it! he thinks he has pulled!!

Fishing wire!!! Hops over it!

Shiney objects over the pond!!! he likes them!, keeps coming back to see them!

I am now on the water sprinkler connected to a PIR sensor.

Anyone have any other suggestions. Other than a gun of course which i would never use. i dont have a dog either

definatley a covered pergola. Cover it with some close weave netting and this will have the added plus of helping to prevent the dreaded weed!

I know this may appear a little extreme, but have you considered an electric fence?
I had a problem with herons and cats when I first built my pond.

I bought an ESM 400 Electric Shepherd after chatting with a local farmer.
He reckoned they were good for 20' straight up in the air for cats

Spec is:
Recommended for line strip grazing for cattle.
Open line voltage 7500v

I did a diy job. The unit cost £80 I used 10mm plastic waste pipe cut to 2' lengths, 45' bends and fitted a further 6" length facing towards the pond. I spaced the pipes 1m apart, with 3 wire lines spaced about 6" apart.

Well the cats only managed about 10' but still quite impressive!

Heron got hit once and did not return. I touched it once by mistake,
felt the jolt right up to my armpit, made my toes curl up as well

I only switch it on occasionally when a new animal comes to visit and have had no further trouble with herons or cats.

It also works on small children and inquisitive adults that don't believe I'm mad enough to put an electric fence around my pond.

I think your mad enough. he he ha ha wibble.
Me too. i'm presently laying a mine field to deter thieves, but really it's just motion sensor cctv linked to a dvd recorder so i know who's hands to break if anything happens to my fish. Also thinking about I.R beam at waist height to trigger e/fence he he he ha ha , l

make sure you have signs up saying you have cctv else if someone does that evidence you have on tape wont be unusable

Anybody have any idea what kind of koi this is? I've looked around on the web but couldn't figure out what it is.
