Hey all very long winded ill try to keep it as short as pos i promise
Built my pond a few months ago, all was well slow stocking after nitrifying cycle.
Mainly old fish of mine kept in my fathers pond.
Bang on the front door one moring guy hands me a rucksack and asked if i can do anything with this fish. 18" mirrior ??ghost?? covered in ulcers and pox abrasions.
first sight was hammer time, but i needed to asses, new pond no quarentine and a dry fish in a bag i had to put it in my pond. looked terrible but did`nt seem to be in any way hazed by it`s issue`s.
i upped the tonic level in the water to about 1.2 kgs per 500g and left it a few days and still no signs of struggling. so i does`ed with nt labs acriflavin. as recomended by a well known koi est., she had shown very good signs of improvement getting alot of fin movment back and clearing up alot. know where near better but on the road to mending.
with the cold coming in i know there amune and metabalism shuts down shes is starting to deteriorate again, and worse my large ghost common is showing signs of white spot on his head and has some flesh stripping on his nose.
I thought maybe with the water changes the tonic would be out of the water and this not helping. but would be a good time for a dose of melachite and formalahyde but my pond is not heated and i read thats it`s not that affective under 10 dc.
I am on the look out for somthing i can addapt to a quarintine system to set up in doors but size must be right so i can move her out of my main pond.
And i have no way of heating my pond efficiently.
can any of you guys advise?
Sorry to rant on
Tony

thanks for your reply gaz
ill get some pics up today taken the day off to try and sort somthing out.
not scraped yet as my friend who works at the local university will inspect but in france, will hopefully be back next week.
i spoke to the guy at nt labs yesterday and he`s opinion was mg and f or fmg in there range would still be affective if the pond was below 10 dc but not 100% , been measuring the temps and is around 10.3 dc.
I have a schole of 10 baby koi and 3 blue orfe in the pond which im moving indoors today plastic container and air pump and canister filter but should see them through the winter. might help them to grow at the same time.
Big ghost is not carp pox deffinatley more like white spot but im sure it is sick mirror related only thing i can find to quary her is a pop up pool which is a bit bigger then i would have liked as i would have loved to move her indoors also so the temp might raise her ammune system but something needs to be done sooner rather than later
I have also aquired a nice containor for doing salt dips in which ill rig up today also
I have alot going on at the moment so im limited on time and resources.
I personally would not treat or salt dip or do anything until you have been able to find out what is going on as it can just make mater's worse so hold of for a bit.
What are you using for testing the water and is this a new kit ?
Always difficult when adding salt to the pond to get an idea of how much is in there but the amounts you are talking of seem pretty background so that shouldn't create a problem if any meds are needed.
Have you any pictures of the fish to give us an idea of the condition it is in.
Isolating the rest of the stock will spread the risk but you have taken on quite a task.
Sorry i havent been on in a few days im not a one day wounder but have lots going on at the moment.
Unfortunatley we lost her on the day i last posted, im putting it down to a bacterial infection that she already had when bought to me in my mind i did everything i could to give her the best chance from certain death.
really appreciate your fast reply`s and comments
On the upside the other fish seem to be picking back up lathargic but i put that down to an unheated pond
