I recently inherited a 15 year old ghost koi. Yesterday, he seemed very lethargic was close to the surface and had flaky scales towards the back of his body. Today he is floating upside down on the pond, he is still breathing and moves around occasionally by going to the bottom face down. He can get back into a normal swimming position but every time i go back out to check, he;s upside down floating again.
We've had the water and another koi tested at the local Koi aquarium and the water is fine and the other fish didn't have parasites. It was suggested he had swim bladder but we were advised to keep our eye on him.
I just wondered how long this can last for? And if its likely he'll survive this?
He came with the house, so has been in the same pond for 15 years! We got additional koi in June/July this year and they all can from an aquarium and have been fine!
We haven't had the poorly fish tested but took one of the smaller koi for scrape and they came back as parasite free. The water test also came back clear.
He's still floating
scales are still flat and not pine cone like. And he is still moving his fins and breathing. He wobbles if you touch him.
Have quarantined him, he's in a smaller tank on his own now still upside down but breathing and moving his fins. Tried to feed him peas but he spits them out.
Any other tips for saving him?
Thanks.
