I use a water meter (the one i filled the pond with) on a purifier as they all have a maximum gallonage that you can put through them before they are not effective and i tend to change mine early anyway.
Hi Gaz.
I too have a water meter, so I can have a pretty accurate idea of what's gone in. Off the top of my head, I can't remember what amount of water my purifier is rated at(it's one of those disposable types-3ft), but I think I'm right in saying that the maximum is for soft water, my water is hard. So, is there any indication when the life is running out?
Cheers...Freddy.

I also live in a hard water area and i don't have a water meter on my RO unit but change the pre-filtration regularly and even though i run a water softener before it i still change the membranes every 4-6 months and before i had the water softener i used to change them every month.
Hi Guys
I have been doing my water changes now for a few days and have completed at least a 10% change. As part of the water changing process I have also given the Nexus and pods a good clean. I.E Pads and Vortex etc.
The fish are looking a little more settled although still flashing and jumping ocassioanlly. The plan is to do some more water changes in the coming days and take it from there.
If the need arises that I need to do a skin scrape again, how can I be sure I`m doing it correctly and not missing something.
Any thought please?
Glad things seem to be settling down but we would like to see a lot less flashing and flicking as there could still be something about.
When you a scrape and are looking just try to take your time and slowly look across the slide and work it in a methodical way like left to right and up so you cover the full slide.
Hi all
Just been reading through where we are todate. Over the last couple of weeks Ive been doing 10% water changes as advised and cleaned the filters through.
I have noticed the koi are still hiding in the corners and flicking and flashing on occasions. The plan is to take a skin scrape tomorrow and see what I can see.
If I should find somthing on them tomorrow, what is the minimum temperature that I should treat the fish at? I have heard that I should leave them now for the winter?
It will depend on what if anything you need to treat with to be honest so lets see what you come up with first.
If your fish do have parasites then you defiantly need to get them sorted and not leave them for winter as this can turn into something very nasty so quicker the better.
