Default Will NITRATE cause fish flashing?

So, Ammonia and Nitrite are fine, have scraped and scraped and finding nothing...but I still have fish flashing. Started over the last 48 hours and a few fish are doing it.

Today I tested the Nitrate for the first time......and the Kusuri Test kit measures it as percentage........and it is between 75% and 100%!!!!

So, can anyone tell me if high Nitrate levels would also agrivate the fish enough to make them flash? I have done a 30% water change today to try and dillute the Nitrate a bit and will keep doing smaller changes over the next few days.

Cheers All.

There's many things which will cause flashing, obviously poor water quality, or infections, can cause them to do this, or even attempt to jump out. There's also known to be a situation where some will copy another for a while, "just to get you going."

I'd suggest a very slow trickle change 24/7 is better than sudden changes.
The chlorine in this rate of exchange will quickly dissipate.
You can calculate the rate by first trickling into a 2pt container or whatever and timing it. Then if you know the volume of your pool, do the math to get the rate you require.

Hiya

I am not familiar with the Kusuri Nitrate kit but will have a google to see if I can find the instructions.

Just to double check have you tested the supply water for Nitrate?

Personally being a disbeliever in some of the kits out there I would take a sample of pond water, second of supply and third a mix of 50% supply and 50% pond, you could do a fourth with a mix of deionised water and pond.

With this you should get some idea whether the readings you are getting make any sense.

Nitrate is something that builds up gradually I wouldn't have thought that it would cause a sudden change in behaviour.

You checked your Carbon unit is working? In the absence of critters I would be looking at pollutants other than Nitrate but can see that having got what seems a strange read then it is your immediate focus.
