Default Fish Warts??? Effect Feeding???

About 2 months ago I bought from another Koi Keeper a 60cm Sanke.

Cracking fish, but on collection I noticed a raised bump on part of the white on the fish. The previous owner said it had appeared in the last couple of weeks, and kindly offered me to cancel the purchase if it bothered me.......it didn't and I happily brought my new addition home.

The fish has since not been a very sociable member of the crowd, and although does swim with the other fish sometimes, spends most of the time swimming around and around the pond on it's own. Literally doing ircuits of the whole pond.

Have scraped.....not parasite issues, no flashing, jumping or any other strange behaviour. My water is spot on and the other fish are fine.

BUT....the bugger won't eat! In 7 weeks......she must have only had 20 pellets if that! On a good day, and if you can get her near the surface and drop them on her nose, she may have 1 pellet...but as soon as any other fish is within 12 inches of her she swims off and thats the end of her feeding!

The only other thing to note is that there appears to be another lump growing about 2 inches further along her body. These lumps are not ulcers and only about 1cm in size......

Would the lumps be connected to the lack of appitite? What other treatment can I do for a non-opened lump? If it was a cut or ulcer I'd be fine, but haven't found any posts or web searches that show lumps like these.

She has a decent enough body bulk so I think she may be fine through the winter.....but am getting a little concerned as if it was due to the change of surroundings...that should have settled by now. I even use the same food that the previous owner used so it's not that!

Any idea's as I'm proper befaddled!!!

Cheers

Schmike

Default Hi schmike

Hi schmike ,I remember when i was working for my local koi dealer, and she had a really big showa with a really large lump/bump , she was a really big old fish, and i think she(the owner) reckoned it was a tumour/or cyst i can,t remember 100o/o though because this was going back a couple of years now, but koi did live quite long after she first noticed the lump/bump. I,m no expert though. .but you say the bumps are only 1 cm big,so I could be wrong.Maybe the others can help you a bit more mate. Hope your sanke recovers . .

Hiya

Start point must be to look at this logically.

Always difficult thinking about these type of issues "down the wire" much depends on how big and where the lumps are and depicting them in photos is never easy.

So first question would be where are the lumps? If they are standing out externally then need to consider what affects they would be having internally hence position would be the first question.

Sorry no answers but more than happy to try and think through

Dave

Hi Guys and thanks for your responses.

The lumps do stick out about 5mm and the location is on the right side of the body, just above the lateral line and about 1/3rd along the body from the tail end - more or less in line with the mid dorsal. They are about 2 inches apart and the second one only appeared a couple of weeks ago.

Have bowled here today for a proper closer look and the best way to describe the look of the lump is that it appears white and is shaped/appears like the underside of a limpet that you find on rocks at the seaside! - sort of oval with a flat top surrounded by sloped sides. Certainly nothing like the Ulcers that I have dealt with in the past after bacterial outbreaks.

So much nearer the tail than the head and away from the vital organs.

Is this a doitsu?

Thats right Dave, closer to the tail than the head. So away from the main organs etc. Will try and bowl here again and "TRY" and get a photo that shows up.

No she's not Doitsu, she's fully scaled.
