I have to agree, bypassing the filters is a folly. Zap the buggers in their beds. YES it may knock the filters back a bit, but that will do far less harm to your koi than allowing some of the parasites safe passage.

ZAP EM !

PP is a very aggressive chemical it kills all bacteria good & bad .If PPing for trich or costia i would dose twice a week to kill off any infeststion, and repeat for 1 month to be sure i wiped them out.I leave my biological media in its own chambers with air stones, add 3% salt, if the PP doesn't stay pink after 2 hrs
i add a second dose at 1.5g per ton,this usually lasts 9 hours. I leave all bypasses on untill next morning.I drain to waste my bio, none of the parasites can live for 20 hrs in 3% salt water. I do not oxidise with hydrogen peroxide until the second treatment has browned off,and do not connect my bio chambers before 3 hrs after H2O2 has oxidised, as this will also kill good bacteria.

regards O.

Sorry but this is bad advice;

One dose of PP correctly administered will sort Tric.

There is no need to retreat unless scrapes tell you there is the need.

Keeping the water pink ie in an oxidating state for 9 hours is simply a recipe for ruining the gills on the fish or worse.

Dave,
this is not advice to anyone.This is the way i treat with PP, i have never lost a fish by this treatment nor are the gills damaged in any of my koi.

regards O.
