My Doitsu Kohaku has for a couple of days been off her food.
Noticed yesterday she was a little 'pinky' in places. Could not see anything that was actual damage on her.
No real signs of spawning although I had put the spawning rope back when the dome of the drain had 'again' been lifted off on Monday. Very strong smell in the pond and filters and DOC higher. PH was flapping around more than normal. So I think maybe a spawning had taken place and the BD dome was the recipient?
Drained down half the pond to get access to the dome and this time sod the rules, I glued it on top and bottom.
Refilled ( not direct from tap). All day Tuesday the filters pulled the pond back to its sparkling best. Parameters spot on. PH steady etc.
Today Wednesday morning, i noticed she was a darker pink on most fins. So I bowled her and found the tail fin damage, poor girl was in a mess really stressed out.
So i set up the hospital bench along with all medical hardware in case it needed cutting as well as repair, stitching and treatment.
Anesthetic, recovery bowl with a little salt, wet towel, etc.
Although there was an actual small piece hanging off the upper fin. I decided after examination and cutting of the piece. To just to clean, bathe, cover, paste to protect the wounds.
I am not sure if I should have cut the infected area of bone out totally, only time will tell?
She returned to pond and appeared all ok for the rest of the day. Pink area's all gone by 4pm.
But late this evening she has now decided to be lonely in the middle of the pond. Maybe after shock, maybe she has spawned again, maybe the males have been at her again.
Then again it could be worse, could it actually be an internal infection and what we see is actually start of fin rot? I do not think so, but another sleepless night beckons.
Glyn

Right pain Glynnl. Ive got a doitsu sanke that had a similar issue last year, lost around 70% of the top ray on the tail and a big chunk of tail with it .
12 months on he has recovered about 50% of the damaged tissue and signs are that this time next year he will be as good as new.
