Ray

Hannas' tech support is abysmal, the Pinpoint will serve you better.

But bottom line - ORP - dont get hung up on it.

Ochiba - No mention of pH in the links

The point here is that ORP readings alone do not provide the true oxidizing value of the water. Without pH factored into the equasion it is a pretty worthless number when used to compare the water of 2 different ponds. Unfortuneately you will often hear some constantly spouting off about the ORP reading in their pond. Big deal, they have a low pH

A more meaningful comparison would be attained by using rH2. I will do the current rH2 on my pond. The current pH is 7.7 and the ORP is 324 mV.

(324 + 205 = 529) /29.58 = 17.88 + (7.7 x 2 = 15.4)

rH2 = (17.88 + 15.4) 33.28

rH2 of 28 is considered neutral, so the above reading indicates that the water is in an oxidizing state.

What's yours ?

Hiya

We are going off topic, which was Rays pp treatment for his Tric.

One of the reasons I dont pay much attention to ORP is that the meters and probes available are as unreliable as some of the basic test kits. My preference is to spend my cash on RO to allow me to run TDS and pH rather lower than source.

Yes the water is in an Oxidating state.

Hi Guys,

I only really use the ORP meter if i was to treat with PP as like Dave i myself found that it isn't so much as important to me as getting the water spot on for the fish

Ray i am also a Crouch Valley guy so you will have to come and say high to us at the next meeting

There are some things you need to know about ORP measurement:
1) it's slow, VERY slow and patience is a virtue
2) you need a flow, so at least stir and preferably at a constant speed (and not to slow).
3) CALIBRATE! always do a proper calibration/cleaning before measuring for about every type of electrochemical measurement
4) electrones tend to 'stick' on the measuring part of the electrode (glass membrane with metal bands) so wipe it off before each measurement.

Some usefull information (mostly pH related but there are some ORP hints too): http://www.consort.be/Support/Techni...ion/APP_pH.pdf
I really recommend reading this document.
