I have noticed that on some of the fish and one koi there seems to be some small white spots clustered together on the gills mainly. Is this Ich? Ive heard that salt is a good treatment?

It sounds like what you describe, 'white spot' for which there are various treatments available on the market.
Keep an eye on it, as it can spread quite quickly.

You need to get the fish scraped, without a scrape it is simply guesswork whether it is Ich or not; Male fish can get white spots on the gill plates as spawning time approaches and it could be this but without seeing the fish and doing a scrape no one can give you a diagnosis.
Have you access to a microscope?
I wouldn't be adding salt if i suspected that it might be Ich, as it would compromise your choice of treatment.
If it is white spot you really need to confirm it quickly with a scrape as it will soon kill all your fish . Its a easy one to see under the microscope as it is one of the largest parasites but it could well be spawning tubicals as Dave has said .
The reason not to add salt now is because if it is white spot the best treatment for it is M&F which cant be used with high salt levels
Hi another thing this could be is the rough spots male koi get when it's spawning time feel the gill plates if there rough it's a male koi in breeding condition.I have seen this mistaken for white spot before.
I would also scrape as said by other members, better to be safe than sorry.
Hi, you need to do a scape as white spot is a fast killer. treat with F&M if temp is 13 C treat on days 1,7,and 13. if 18 C then treat 3 times but leave only 4 clear days between treatments. not advising use of salt it reacts to other teatments unless using as a dip
