Reputation Level: | carp deaths hi sorry to bother you but you are my last hope over the past six weeks i have been losing my carp in the pond both koi and goldfish the pond has plenty of filteration and air the tests are all pretty good for water quality. And all of the other fish are fine orfe tench ect .I have been keeping koi for twelve years and have never seen this before and it is heart breaking the koi and goldfish are spawning young are hatching yet dying at around two days old .there are no real visable signs of distrese or blemishes although the fish are a little skittish .The size range of deaths are across the board from six inches to thirty inches does this problem ring any bells if so is there anything that can be done. So far i have treated the water with salt done four 50% water changes each time using aquasafe and have spent upwards of £150.00 at my local fish shop on recomended remidies and the problem still remains something tells me that they are not the specialist they profess to be yours hopeingly mark. |

Reputation Level: | hi mark , get a pro in to do a scrape , and have a look under the microscope , you need to rule things out as you go .
what are your pond readings
nitrite
ammonia
ph (test early morning , then again late evening )also test your tap water
until you've tested ammonia , and ph hold off on the changes .
can you give us , pond dimensions , gallons and set up please .
and we'l try and help

Reputation Level: | to add to steve's post your stocking rate to......
alot of people at the moment are suffering from ph crashes where your kh is to low to buffer the water causing the ph to raise and fall this can have a major affect on fish and is not to be ruled out as a cause |

Reputation Level: | Hello its boyceee again as promised here are my water test results
ammonia 0.1
nitrite 0.6
ph 8.1
it has been suggested that this may all be a parasitic infestation so any ideas of how to kill the parasites i would be greatful CFAS dont seem to think that it is KHV or SVC so fingers crossed there may be light at the end of the tunnel
thanks guys and girls Mark |

Reputation Level: | i wouldn't say it was khv . your ph is a little out something to keep an eye on . Have you got someone local that can do scrapes there is no point using these off the shelf all round treatments as they don't work.
there are many baddies with many treatments you need to find out..
for flukes i would recommend Fluke M
but get back to us with what a scrape finds |
