Default Koi with gill problem

Hi,
Please could someone help with a problem I have with a sick koi?

For the last few days the fish in question has been totally off it's food.
It has been swimming slowly around the pond, generally near the surface.
It's not gasping for air or anything but suspected something wasn't quite right.
It's not flicking either.
On closer inspection, one of the gills has a some white coming out of it. It could be mucas but not sure.

Anyone have any ideas? Bacterial or parasite?

Cheers,
Andy

Anyone have any ideas?
The fish has got worse but still shows no physical signs of problems. (by this I mean no marks, no flicking etc)

It is breathing mainly through one of it's gills, barely moves the other gill.
I have been giving daily gill wash dips for the last 3 days for 30 mins, can I increase this? ie two dips a day for 30 mins?
It did remove some mucus on the first dip but the fish hasn't improved.

I really don't want to stress this fish out more or prolong any suffering, is there a humane way of doing the nasty? I think someone mentioned either clove or some other treatment in a large dose to put the fish to sleep but can't seem to find the thread now???

Yeah clove oil will do the job but id wait a bit longer have you looked behind the gill plate to see if anything is stuck there? any chance you can get a gill scrape done to check for gill parasites. You could also try giving it salt baths at 3oz per gallon for 3 mins at a time dayle in case it is bacterial pluse make shore you have plenty of oxygen going in to the pond as that will help if it is strugeling to breath pluse the salt will help to de stress it hope this helps

Thanks worthy, unfortunately the worst happened last night.
Came home from work to find him struggling on his side on top of the pond. Thought it best to stop the suffering, a difficult job but for the best i felt. I wouldn't want it to endure any more stress/pain.
I should really had a local expert do a post mortem but too late now.

All other fish seem as per normal but i will keep an extra-vigilant eye on them for a few weeks! I will also be purchasing a microscope in the very near future.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
