Reputation Level: | Sick Koi Good Evening Everyone,
I am a new member and have a problem with a koi carp due I think to my own stupidity. I had a large goldfish die on me some six weeks ago and treated the pond with Blagdon Anti Fungus and Bacteria. I have lately been wondering if that had left any residue in the pond as the water was quite green looking. With a fortnights holiday looming this coming Sunday, on Wednesday I decided to do a partial water change and probably over did it by replacing about 60% of the water. Since then a large yellow koi, about 18 ins in length, has been almost motionless on the top with it's back above the surface in a corner of the pond. Every couple of hours or so it has a little swim around, head tilted downwards until again it stops at a corner of the pond, again with it's back exposed. Today, on the advice of a local water garden centre, I gave the pond a treatment of Blagdon General Tonic. I am worried that if it doesn't recover and dies while I was away, would the other fish die due to the dead koi being in the pond for what might be up to two weeks. I was thinking of finding another home this koi this year as he is now a bit big for my pond. The pond volume is only 250 gallons and I bought this koi about seven years ago when it was 6ins in length. It shares the pond with one other koi of 10 inches, two 8 inch goldfish and two 6 inch shubunkins.
Obviously time is of the essence and any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks, cheven. |

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I had the water quality checked and though the ph was slightly high it was still within acceptable limits.
Thanks cheven. |
