Hi all, i have searched for an answer on here but arent exactly sure what im looking for because i dont know exactly what my koi has.
There is a whiteish lump on the tail and at first i thought fungus but then though tumour and now im in no mans land as to how to treat it effectively. It did appear to be slightly veiny / bloodshot. Please take a look at the picture and advice would be great.
p.s. please note that in the picture the red solution is acriflavin, not fresh blood!

Sorry but that is not carp pox saddly im afraide it looks more like a tumar and the only way to sort it is to get in touch with a koi doc/vet and they will see if they can remove it other than that there is not a lot that can be done for it other than give it the best you can

Ok yeah the smaller lump at the bottom of the tail is carp pox but the big top lump i would still say was a tumar it's to fleshy to be anything else so id still seek profesional advice from vet/koi doc

As i suspected.. thanks for your input guys. I would, however, like to point out an interesting fact; I have applied acriflavin to the tumour twice, and it has actually broken down slightly to about 70% of its iriginal size... im not kidding. Yet im still content that it is a tumour... very interesting i think! Perhaps there is hope for tumours after all with some experimentation?
p.s. what should i do about the carp pox and is it infectious?

That is very interesting well keep trying that and it might break it down some more just gose to show that if we try thing it might just work.
As for th carp pox they are not infectious at all it is just one of those things they get and they will go in time

it would have been better if you had a photo before treatment as said above yes it could be two things
1.carp pox
2 tumor
the trouble being with the redness you cant tell if its a carp pox i would go out on a limb here and say if its a small fish and the spot was white before hand it prob is a carp pox and if its a bigger fish then a tumor as big fish are less likely to get carp pox.
abit about carp pox to fill you in:
carp pox is a viral infection that will not harm you koi one little bit. sometimes it is past to weak fish to weak fish but as i said is something not to worry about. To date there is not a treatment for them apart from heating your pond to a magic number of 21 degs but this comes with a big price tag. afew companys say they have treatments for carp pox but i believe [with many others] that its just something to gain extra income as small koi get pox almost very spring. i use virisure in my pond yes it limits the amount i get but the small weaker koi still get pox.
hope this helps you out
Thanks again for information. As for size, the fish is approximately 12 inches.
As for redness, i caught him to apply some more acroflavin the other day and upon drying the lump (beofre applying treatment) my white towel slightly reddened, telling me that is was oozing a tiny bit of blood
Another thing that might be useful is if i mention that this fish has had this lump for probably over 2 years, but i have been battling a long term illness myself for 3 years so havnt made it a priority to look at.
Does this change anybodies view?
thanks
What colour is the lump befor you put anything on it? and as for it bleading? i still think it could be a tumar but it could be an abcess wich needs draining it might be a good idea to get a vet to have a look
