Reputation Level: | HI Eveyone Help needed hi everyone just had my koi pond over a yearand all my fish have been rather healthy until now, i bought 2 tancho and chagoi to put in the pond and within 3 days 1 tancho had like cotton wall on its side and the over formed a black eye, treated the pond with malachite, 1 tancho died and the other just dissapeared all of a suden i got on of my larger koi lost some of its fin tail and another with a raised patch of scales on its back, seems to be happening all over night, ive tested my water which was slightly high in ammonia in which i done a good water change, which made the levels perfect, just wondering if any one else had encountered similar problems many thanks jayj |

Reputation Level: | i dont mean this nasty but why did you not qt the fish before putting them in the main pond ?
the stress of moving the koi from where you brought them to your pond has problery caused white spot, fin rot the list goes on you need to get a scrape done quick to find out and treat a.s.a.p before you lose the lot |

Reputation Level: | thanks thanks for the advice on gettting scrapes done, i found a local koi doctor after numerous amount of phone calls they done a scrape a found flukes and trichodina, he gave the pond a treatment of pottasium permangante, i dont know how good this stuff is but seems to be recomended on quite a few web sites hopefully it does the trick. thanks again for the advice |

Reputation Level: | pp will kill any badies you have in the pond full stop. keep an eye on your test as it tends to kill the goodies too. you might need to buy some filter boost |

I strongly disagree with this statment iv used filter bosting bacteria every year with GREAT resaults the stuff i use is Bacto pluse gel and as its a gel it sticks to your meadia to speed it along that bit quicker than just the liquid one's

this is your view on things millions of other koi keepers will tell you alot different i know for sure that this gel stuff works they wouldn't be allowed to sell filter boost otherwise ......... its the law. |

Reputation Level: | its been a day since i done the pp just wondering what are the next steps as got told to leave it for a couple of days then do a water test and 25% water change and add filter booster, surely i should get another scrape done to see if its done the trick then leave it a good few weeks to build its filter bacteria levels up. also does this pp leave any marks on the fish in the pond. sorry about all the questions but no one locally seems to have much knowledge and want to learn as much as possible, thank you |

follow the steps stated by your self above and things should be all ok.
pp shouldn't leave marks if you have marks it could be where the fish has been attacked by the baddies just keep an eye on them they should heal with a nice clean pond there are some very good articals on the web. • View forum - Learn from the experts • View forum - The sticky threads |
