Rep Power: 0 | Re: Help needed This is what i would do, put the koi under aenesthetic, cut off the front ray of the dorsal fin and remove any dead/infected tissue including the remnants of old ray/bone. Quaterise the wound and topically treat and seal with either orahesive powder or propolis wax. Return the fish to a q/t which has REALLY good water and lots of heat. This fish will, be pretty much scarred for life with this type of damage but healing is possible, given good warm water and a steady hand. Remember if you are cutting bone, dont shatter the bone by using bladed instruments like scissors, use a dremel type devive which will slice the bone neatly. and seal it well otherwise your asking for a secondary infection to take hold.
Just by doing a propolis treatment your not treating the injury or sealing it effectivley. That damaged front ray is going to keep getting infected and kill the fish eventually, i know it seems harsh but get that bit of the problem out of the equation and then you can deal with the rest.
Just my opinion, but i cant see anything being saved from the front part of the dorsal. anyone else got an opinion on this?
john
