Reputation Level: | DROPSY or something else Hi just picked out a dead fish from the pond.Yesterday I noticed it was very slow moving and was not touching any food like the rest of the fish. The eyes were sticking right out and very prominant but there was nothing else visible.Could this be dropsy?is it contagious?how do you treat it?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

were any of the scales raised on the body ?? (like a pine cone) if so it would indicate Dropsy
If it is Dropsy its a bacterial problem and i would suggest checking over the rest of your fish for any signs of scales raising up and if so Isolate and salt bath them
I would also be inclined to feed the whole pond with a food that contains Anti-biotics and keep a close watch on them

There are quite a few things that can cause this, it is not contagious but poor water quality can cause this, which will effect your other fish, you say that you are still feeding, what temperature is your water? I would test the water first and if this tests ok, other things to look for would be were there any sores on the fish? as a build up of fluids cused by osmosis would cause pop-eye, also internal problems such as kidney failure, tumors, bacterial or even viral problems all can be the cause.
salt baths are very good for helping to release any fluid that is causing internal pressure behind the eyes, should any of your other fish start showing any signs.
As I said before the first thing to do is test your water.
Hope this helps
