Default Water Changes - dechlorinator

Hi All,

Just checking, but when you add dechlorinator to the pond after performing a water change and say you added 200 gallons - is it just this 200 gallons that you treat with dechlorinator at say 10ml per 100 gallons - so in this case 20ml to be added ? Just had this sudden thought if its the entire pond volume that should be treated and not just the fresh water added.

Thanks

Paul.

hi i dont use the stuff myself but i should of thought that it was the water your adding so 20ml should do as the rest of the water is all ready treated. the best way of treating the water is to get a dechlorinator that fits on to your hose pipe. it is alot cheaper to i think try e-bay for one or here mark will proberly have them and he could do you a better price ?

Hi Paul

I am pretty sure you add dechlorinator for the whole pond volume so as it treat all of the water you have added as it mixes with old pond water. This way it makes sure it is safe.

You could invest in a water purification filter set. Will set you back £200/300 pounds for a decent one but it will pay for itself in the long run. Talk to Extreme, he will recommend a decent set and I am sure do you a good price.

Surely you will only need to dechlorinate the water you are putting in.

I used to have to do much the sameÂ* but all I had was a new Plastic dustbin which held 90 litres which is approx 20 gallonsÂ* but as I was at the pond anyways filling it ten times and dechlorinatingÂ* every bucketfull didn't take long, but as most people are saying in the long run a dechlorinating unit would work out more cost effectiveÂ* have a browse on Ebay for oneÂ* they sometimes pop up there
