Default Fresh Start

Hi All,

Having started Koi keeping a year ago I had a tough time last year and for the beginning of this year with fish deaths due to high Ammonia & Nitrite levels and also some form of bacterial disease which lead to a number of deaths from what looked like pine cone disease.

Thanks to this forum I now have perfect water parameters, but before I rush out and buy some new fish how can I be sure that my pond is free from any nasty bacteria or other diseases ? I currently have a few Koi with raised scale issues (which Mark has kindly told me how to treat) and two with blood like marks on them - I want to be 100% sure that my pond is now a safe place to put new fish in before purchasing any more.

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Paul.

Default Re: Fresh Start

with some fish still showing signs of bacteria i would leave it a while untill you know for sure that everything is under control ( either clears up completely or goes belly up ) there is no point in knocking your enthusiasm for keeping koi with another spate of fish deaths . when you are ready for new fish make sure you use a well respected koi dealer i would reccomend darren at a4koi but i do belive mark at extreme to be well respected and have only heard good things said about his fish , if you start with good clean healthy fish you will have more chance of keeping them that way. good luck with it all and hope to see some new members of your pond on this forum soon . all the best paul
p.s dont introduce to many new koi in one go
