found this hope it helps..Potassium permanganate can be extremely effective against Flukes, Trichodina,

Bacterial Ulceration and Fungal infections. Since this spectrum fills in the gaps where Salt seems to falter, it should be considered highly as an excellent compound to balance with Salt in any well-prepared drug cabinet.

Caution must be used; however, because the toxic level of this compound is only slightly higher than the therapeutic level. Dosing must be exact, and so should the volume estimate of the system.

For years, now, I have been a strong supporter of the use of Salt as a mainstay in the treatment of fish parasites. It's safe and effective, and it does not harm the filter bacteria. Looking at it closely, it has a lot to recommend it. But... Salt falls down when we confront Flukes, and sometimes when we face Asian Trichodina. Salt fails to clear more than 60% of Fluke infestations, (although it has cleared 30-40% of cases simply by inhibiting the reproduction of some species of flukes over the three-week treatment period).

Yes I would second the thought that you dont use PP with salt.
I do remember getting abit of a slateing for not salting my pond. All you salters out there told me that you dont have to treat for parasites if you use salt, So you would have no reason to add MGF or PP, as salt will keep it all at bay
I rest my case.
I am still sorry to hear you have trouble with you Koi though.
I must say, that is one of the main reasons I dont salt. If I ever do get any problems I can just deal with it straight away.
Although My pond has been running for 18 months now and I have never had to treat my Koi. My water is completly unsalted. The only stuff I add to My pond is Clay once a week.
I hope you get it sorted.
Justin

no one ever said you WOULDNT have to treat for parasites if you run salt in your pond . the reason i have to treat for parasites is i have recently took four fish for a m8 whos pond was stabbed by a heron so he needed to replace his liner his fish have since left my pond and guess what ??? he dosent run salt in his pond either and i never had a parasite before they went in . so maybe if he had run his pond with salt i wouldnt have to be worrying what treatment to use . and your doing ever so well not treating your pond after 18 months , i think most people are not this lucky . thanks paul . ps cheers john and brett for your input .

you know paul , salting your pond is probably the best thing for them , i would use pp as a dip , i have been checking today for you , it clears up trichodina very well , im sure you,ll get on top of it.someone is getting very hot headed about their case against salt , the benefits will always outway the cons and theres lots of safe treatments to use with salt otherwise the top experts in the koi world wouldnt recomend or even swear by it im sure.Good luck Paul

hi paul , i know its safe to use in your pond with salt, i even spoke to Paula Reynolds earlier this year about using it in someones salted pond for similar problem, she is the head koi doctor in this country and she confirmed what you said, but it can knock back your system so stick to the dip. This salting your pond thing is no competition to see whos pond does best.it is simply good advice to people , those who dont best of luck to you if you maintain your pond well you may never get problems, but as seen throughout this forum the benifits are endless there are NO bad points against it.
