Default What is this????????????????????????

Anyone any idea what this Koi has wrong with him. Apparently he's had it for years and I've been told its a pigment problem.
PS he's 24 inches long and feeds like the rest of the KOI.
Cheers Crazy-Koi

if the kois had it years its possibly a tumour ,but it looks like a massive ulcer and you might be able to treat it.as koiman said get it scraped as it could spread to your others.

What is the best way to take a scrape? After I have the scrape how can I test to see what it is? Excuse my ignorance but never had any Koi with Ulcers or Tumours before.

hi i have had a reply from duncan quicker than i thought he would answer but not with to gooder news.sorry
the e-mail:

two possibilities here

its not an ulcer although it looks like one

its either dermocystidium "very advanced stage of the disease"

or papilloma tumour, going on the pics i would go for papilloma

with what looks like the hikui also on the head portion of the fish, either way the fish looks screwed

my advice is keep yourself safe at all costs "glove up" and destroy this fish a satisfactory cure is unlikely

sorry

Duncan

Well looks like the poor fish has passed his sell by date. Any advice on the most humane way to send him to his maker.

injections work very well i had to inject 3 koi last year with ulcers caused by the flukes
i went to the vets and got three injections for each koi and they are now healed
nd it didnt cost much either much less than £30 for all three
