Default water test needed

Hi All

Does anybody know where I can have a water test done for bacteria
I lost a koi to what looked like a bacterial infection about 2 months ago and thought it was just a one off ,but I now have another fish showing early signs of a problem (ie: sulking and hanging in the water head down tail up)
I have done all the usual water tests with kits and all parameters are good, i have also done a scrape for parasites and have not found any, there are no open sores on the fish to take a swab from even if i knew where to send one to, so does anybody know where i can send a water sample off to test for any poisons or bacteria.

Thanks

John

have you scraped around the gill area to see if gill flukes are present, they can cause the fish to hang head down.

Hi Taffy

Yes I have done a scrape not found any parasites, as you say it does look like a gill problem I think bacterial as the fish that died developed dropsey.

Thanks

Hi Darren
The pond that has the problem has a rubber liner, I have 2 filter systems on it, from my bottom drains I have a kockney koi 5000 with a fluid bed filter attatched and from my skimmers a yamatsu mega max, the temp is 15c there is a header pond with a waterfall and stream made out of slate but this is turned off at the moment.

Thanks

John

hi john
i would say from your liner that you have stale water in the folds of the liner and that is why you are getting bactirial problems .
do you have any salt in the pond ?
and do you have any chloramine t ?

Hi Darren

Good thinking about the folds in the liner, I salted the water the day that I noticed the ill fish, I don't have any chloramine t is it safe to use with salt if I can find any.

Thanks

John
