Default Rotting Fins.

Hi everybody,

This is my 1st post.. ;D just wondering if anyone can help me..i've got 2 small carp and a koi around 7inches long with a small chaqoi of around 6inches all in a small 50 gallon tub in a brick built shed ready to go into a pool i'm extending ready for spring...when i 1st put all these fish into the tub everything was fine for age's then all off a sudden they had a bad case of white spot..all the other fish were swimming around as normal even though they had these spots but the chaqoi just kept lying into the corner with his fins clung to his body hardly moving, i went to my local aquatics and they gave me some white spot treatment. all the fish have done there treatment and all the white spot has gone and the fish look alot better..the chaqoi has made a great recovery but still not 100%..he swims around but very slowly and he's the only fish in the tub thats suffering with fin rot. :-\ :'( i've had the water checked and thats ok.

Tone.

yes heat the water slow about 1 deg per day. the magic number they say is around 23 deg for healing but hey anything warmer than it is at the mo is a bonus lol

Hi tone,You need to get some heat on,a 300watt aquarium heater will do the job,Also treat with bacteriacide or acriflavin. Good luck Carol.

Hi and thanks for your replys, i've got an old external fluval 403 as the filter..not working as good as it used to but seems to being doing the job ok at the moment..i will try and get an heater for the tub then and hopefully that will help.

Can i get bacteriacide or acriflavin from the local aquatics?..also is it best to treat with this stuff when the waters warmer or treat it now.? :-\

Thanks,

Tone.

Hi Tone,
Acrivlavine and salt together could be used, if you are sure you have a bacterial infection I personally would use an anti bacterial treatment. As everyone else as said, heat your pond/quarantine tank if possible, treat as soon as possible, you need to be over 10 degrees celcius otherwise the treatment will have little or no effect.

Hi and thanks again for your replys,

I took a water sample to the local aquatics and they said the water was'nt to bad...what that means really i don't know...to be honest i felt that they was'nt that helpfull and they did'nt seem that interested so i think i will purchase a water testing kit tomorrow myself and then report back with the results.

Tone.

Hi Tone,,
You will be better off with your own testing kit as you should check your water regularly,,
I personsly check mine every week.
