Hiya

I'm guessing male? but still got the interesting stage to come - These fish are just so frustrating

How do you see the Sumi ending up, is it going to come through?

Hi Dave ,

your 50% right its both male and female !!!

its hard to tell from the pic , but it has a female type beni of the isa line , and goes very pale like a girl when growing , not the first time ive had a bothy !! as for future development : the koi has a huge frame , and thick tail tube , its one of this imposing fish , that will look 90cm at 75cm , the sumi will come through , and become solid in a few years , but i do like it how it is , with kage type .

your right on how frustrating these fish are !! this is my 3rd showa ever !!

1st one got stolen , 2nd one is male , and 10yrs old , had great enjoyment from him , even using him to produce a very nice shiro , though he's off to a new home this year , as he's finally past his best !! now i have this tranny , which should give me a few years of enjoyment .

steve

Love showa for the very things that are frustrating . Very nice fish, will be fascinating to see how it develops... like it a LOT!

Female type beni? Could you develop on that please... I have read a fair bit over the years about beni in young fish and what is likely to happen. Learning a little about different breeders 'traits' and hopeful expectations when sourcing from a particular breeder, and would like try and understand this aspect of femaleand male beni.

How early would you be likely to make an informed guess a fish was male or female without any other check for example?
