Hi Brek.

I can't disagree with anything you've said

Interesting... For me its down to what I like... sort of like putting a picture up, I like it so it goes up [or the mrs heh] - would i be happy if someone came round and said hey thats a van gough of course . Would it make me happy if someone said hey thats a beautiful picture... of course... We get our koi first, for me anyway, because its what we like... I buy the best quality I can because yes the more vibrantthe more sexy shape the impression the koi gives usually means it is more pleasing to to me.

Jumbo size... to be honest I don't really factor in the potential to e jumbo... it is true that big koi have a presence dont think anyone that has seen real big koi swimming relaxed and majestic can deny that... so I know they will grow and buy small for best quality I can afford enjoying what I get for how it is or how my minds eye says it COULD be...

Showing... its the taking part that counts... winning a prize is exciting, but theres an element of sharing your pride and joy and if the judges dont agree thats their opinion and they wouldn't spot my van gough . I showed oh maybe 12 yrs ago and would like to again - its just another fun part of the hobby for me, and yeah there is a real nice feeling when someone says hey wish that was my koi... some good comments in this thread, just shows theres a lot to our love for koi and the different buzz points for each of us. How often our fav koi is based not on how it looks but its personality heh

The koi wouldn't be turned away if was brought along to a show, so it has a kink, so what, it doesn't make the fish unhealthy or in need of treatment like an ulcer would, so it wouldn't pose a problem on that front.

The kink would be noted as a demerit and that would no doubt have an effect on it's placement at a show, but it would still be allowed in none the less and a demerit would only come into play if the judging was tight i.e other than the kink it was hard to place this against another fish, at which point the kick would probably push the koi back a place.

Don't get me wrong, no one wants to see deformed fish at a show, but a small kink in the tail that was no doubt caused by a feeding frenzy or similar is not really a major issue.
