it is a doitsu fish but .....the colours on the fish do change from time to time, the black on the fish is actually a dark blue colour over the top of red.
cheers
timmy
seen the fish in person and the fish is almost a maroon colour and is doitsu,
i've told Timmy what i think it is, and also told him to ask others as it is a most unique fish.
It looks like a Beni Kumonryu, Beni because of the red on it, if it was metalic fish it would be a Kikokuryu. These fish are always Doitsu and change patten as they grow. Sorry to say but examples with bluish skin are not the best examples and should be avoided. But does that matter if its just a pet fish. And welcome to the club by the way.
thanks for the comments, although the fish has a blue and red tinge to it,it is not a beni komonryu, kikokuryu or a doitsu sanke and yes if it was a beni komonru you wouldnt want to buy it to show, but it is a truely good fish and i am thinking of showing it in this years essex section koi show and hopefully the bkks judges will finally be able to tell me defo what it is, i hope that pondy looks at this post again and shares his views even more because he has seen this fish both in and out of the water.
cheers
timmy
i hear your plead.
this fish is very definately a unique fish. but the beauty of our hobby is the fact that everybodies eye is different.
i beleive this koi to be a doitsu Goromo, unfortunately the photo is not a very good and clear one and does not do this koi any justice.
i too would be interested in what the judges have to say on this particular fish.
Timmy, you'll have to stay a member of the Essex Section to show at their show then.
