i love them two but they don't grow as fast as others but every pond should have at least one just like a chag

Your probably right. Never thought about it but the kohaku i bought at the same time as the showa is growing at a faster rate.

a showa wont grow as fast as say a chag or an ogon think theses some logic in colour patterns and growth the more pattern the slower the growth :P :-\

Hi Koiman that may be the case sometimes, but I bought a few small Koi back in april, I have a chagoi and an Ochiba in the batch they are both being thrashed for gowth at the momemt by Hi Utsuri and Kohaku from the same batch, same breeder. In My findings a coloured Koi Is more likely to fade Colour, When growing at speed. and then start to deepen again once the growth spurt starts to slow down to a more steady Growth. I think it is all down to blood line, and more importantly conditions they are kept in.
I will say most Chagoi grow like rockets.
