I think the bottom line is there are so many different thoughts on feeding regimes, what you should do what you shouldnt, everyone will have there only little twist on what they do. what food and when will always be a question with multiple answers.
best thing you can do is find food or foods, that you like set your own regimes as to when and how much you want to feed and then your happy. otherwise you will be swapping and changing and never getting into a routine.
what did you do or use last year? did it work? did the koi survive without any problems? if so why change?
if you didnt have your koi last night, have you a close friend whose koi you have seen come through last years winter. what did they do..

Like others who have already replied I use the same food all the year round. I have never been convinced about the wheat germ being easier to digest story.
I heat my pond gently during the winter dropping the temp slowly down to about 8 during Jan and Feb and then warming up.

As for feeding if they come crashing up to the side of the pool when I go near and are foraging for food I give them a little and remove any surplus after 10 mins. If they are quietly swimming in mid water and show no interest in me when I go near the pond I take this as "I am not hungry" sign.
